August 2016 - July 2017

I founded the Global Voices Podcast during my senior year at UCLA. The show was released by The Generation, UCLA's student-led foreign affairs journal, and I oversaw a team of four reporter-producers. However, the vast majority of production tasks fell to me, and I learned how to report, write for the ear and cut tape on the job.

Eldsjälar

I traveled to my mother's hometown in rural Sweden to report this story about locally-led refugee integration efforts.

DESCRIPTION: In 2014, nearly 200 refugees and asylum seekers were relocated to Åtvidaberg, a rural Swedish town of almost 7,000 people. With only two days of advance notice, the surrounding community scrambled to come to terms with the new arrivals. In this episode of Global Voices, listen as newcomers and native Swedes brave the challenges associated with integration and embrace the shared passions which bind them together.

I Can't Hear You

I co-directed, wrote and edited this episode.

DESCRIPTION: Clashes over First Amendment rights on college campuses have ignited a national conversation about the limits of free speech and the moral responsibilities of student organizations and controversial speakers. In this episode of Global Voices, we tackle some of the big questions surrounding this contentious issue and make the case for more open-minded and inclusive conversations on campus.

The Strongman

The first episode of Global Voices was released days before the U.S. presidential election in 2016. I co-reported, directed, and edited the show.

DESCRIPTION:Donald Trump’s candidacy has redefined how presidential candidates should act and speak. Trump’s huge base of support can be put into context by comparing him to another charismatic leader: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Listen to how the two polarizing figures share common ideals and strategies, understand how each has gained popular support, and consider the repercussions of their political movements.
